Elegia tectorum

Formally known as Chondropetalum tectorum this very fast growing thatching reed from South Africa forms a tufted clump of beautiful foliage reaching approximately 1.5 meters in height with a spread of around 1 meter. The sheaths drop off leaving small distinct dark rings at the nodes. Attractive seed heads are produced in clusters during the autumn. Can be grown in any well drained moisture retentive soil in full sun. Ideal for coastal gardens. Hardy to minus 7 degrees.
